When I was in the city on Saturday I had to go to Douglas House of Beauty to pick up a Talika Lash Serum after all. I remember that it did make fuller lashes when I used it regularly and I want that look back! I also couldn’t help but look for that nail foil set from Ciaté. I ended up spending the whole evening trying on color combinations on the included nailwheel…

And another shot with flash.

IMO this is what those crackle polishes or even the real gold leaf polishes should look like. I love gold and red on black. The other ones are also pretty interesting. But let me tell you something: Do not use Sally Hansen topcoat over this, it dulls the whole finish down and I was on the verge of depression since I’ve read that the foil wears off very fast without topcoat… Thankfully Seche Vite and Poshé did okay, the holo shine wasn’t as intense after applying those, but far not as bad as Sally Hansen. My favorite though is a Gelshine topcoat. The only gripe about that is that the base color polish needs to be thoroughly dry before topcoating, otherwise you will end up with wrinkles…

Stay tuned for actual wearing pics!

Hi again! So I was a seller last Sunday at the 4th beauty flea market, which attracted lots of people despite the burning hot weather. I was able to sell about 20% of my stuff and managed to limit myself to 6 purchases only. Compared to what I got at the first and second time it was pretty much nothing and I still made a “profit” so to say.

Apart from a Body Shop Chocomania showergel you can see my whole loot below:

I have been eyeing OPI Goldeneye for quite some time, but didn’t want to pay full retail for it. Same for On Her Majesty’s secret service. In addition I found those spectacular looking Ninja Polishes and simply couldn’t resist as a multichrome addict. So far I’m very happy with my small purchase and will show you swatches in the next weeks.

Have a nice Sunday!

I was quite excited to see the first holographic nail polish by butter London. I already have All Hail The Queen, but it’s not a real holo if you know what I mean. Despite already foreseeing from the way it looked in the bottle that the effect wouldn’t be strong I bought Trustafarian.

In daylight without direct sunshine the holo effect is almost invisible while the color itself is a muted, pale olive. I think this is as nude as a green can get. The formula is quite sheer, if I remember correctly I needed 3 coats for these pictures.

With flash the holographic effect becomes visible, but it’s still far from my favorite, Kismet by Color Club. Since both colors are similar in the green tone I will try to sell Trustafarian at the next beauty flea market in Vienna on Sunday. Hope to meet some readers there (although I know that you most likely don’t know what I look like ).

Best,

J.

There is something about the OPI DS line that I love. Be it holographics before they became popular or two colored glass flecks like “Indulgence”.

As soon as I saw this color on Scrangie’s blog I knew I had to have it. However, I’m not so much into buying online anymore, so it was pure luck that one bottle of Indulgence was waiting for me when I was on holidays in New York last year.

The bright red particles are luxed up with gold and looks sooo vibrant whether in the bottle or on the nails.

I can imagine this to be the perfect Christmas polish. Okay, we are far (very far) away from that season, but Indulgence is simply too pretty to limit wearing it to a certain time of the year. I can’t really remember how many coats I needed, but I guess it was two since the color isn’t all that sheer to begin with.

The color is still readily available on eBay, so get one while you can!

I thought I had them all, the strongest holographic nail polishes… There is the old one made by GOSH, then those from Make Up Store (Madeleine here and Siw here)… but when I saw swatches of Color Club’s Kismet I was astonished. Temptalia praised it’s texture, easy to apply, not pooling etc. so it lacked all the flaws you would expect from a holo. Of course I went ahead and ordered this fabulous find off eBay.

This first pic is under natural daylight, without being under direct sunlight… the holo effect is strong enough to see it even in bad lighting conditions.

Once you add flash you can see it’s full glory.

So pretty, isn’t it?

Get a bottle (or two?) while you can. From comparing swatches online Kismet seemed to have the strongest holo effect out of all colors from that collection. But the other colors are very pretty as well.

I can clearly declare this nail polish the most holographic one that I own. And I think I own quite a few holo polishes… Do you like it?

Sometimes I tend to think long product names like this are really unnecessary… but the product is decent, so I will forgive the brand for that ridiculous length When I was in Taiwan last year I got a bottle of this foundation since it swatched very well on the back of my hand. Perfect (yellowish) color and decent coverage for something that feels that light.

The bottle contains 30ml and costs approx. 40€ which is already in the range of Chanel and Guerlain. Shu Uemura eyeshadows though are lower priced than those of these brands.

The pump lets you press out exactly the amount you need, which I like. However, most foundations nowadays have those pumps and I can only remember faintly that there were bad pumps out there giving you an amount that you could use a week at once… My color is 964 Medium Light Honey and fits very well to my real skin color. Look at the dots of foundation for comparison: While Bourjois Healthy Mix #53 is a tad too pinkish the Shu Uemura foundation is yellowish enough. Also note how liquid the SU is vs. the creaminess of the Bourjois foundation.

Blended out you can see the color difference even better. Btw the back of my hand is lighter than my face, so yes, both foundation colors match my complexion.

The Face Architect foundation is easily blendable due to its liquid texture and dries down to a satiny to matte finish. The look is relatively natural for the amoung of coverage you get. I bought this because my MAC Pro Longwear Foundation started to look to cakey. In addition to the finish the Shu Uemura foundation also last very well, almost as long as the MAC Pro Longwear one. It’s more sweatproof than Bourjois Healthy Mix and withstands my face’s oilyness slightly longer.

I use this foundation for occasions where long wear and high coverage is needed. But my everyday foundation stays the same: Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation, simply because it smells nice, gives me a healthier face color (although it’s not my original one ;P) and is cheaper.

Did you try any Shu Uemura foundation until now? Which foundation (any brand) is your favorite?

When I was buying OPI nail polishes for a friend at Ulta I also got myself a bottle of OPI You only live twice. The color is an intense fuchsia, leaning red with glassfleck shimmer. The shimmer reflects pink to orange and yellow in the bottle, but only pink on the nails.

You need 2-3 coats of the color. I’m also wearing Seche Vite on top.

I like the color, but prefer more reddish shades like Zoya Sarah or Karina. Now I wished I had gotten OPI Goldeneye from that James Bond Collection back then… if any of you living in Vienna has Goldeneye and wants to get rid of it, let me know

I was just browsing through my oldest posts here and found a picture of my nailpolish collection back in November 2010. More than two years later all I can say is “WOW, how did I manage to live with so few colors back then”…

Well, if I didn’t miscount I had 49 polishes… Today I own about 180, after having sold a few that is. I’ve known OPI nail polishes for quite some time it seems. MAC doesn’t count as this brand is my “first love” in beauty products… In addition to more OPI I bought lot’s of China Glaze polishes, Chanel, Essie, butter London, Dior and many other brands.

Would you like to see my “grown up” collection? In a better quality of course? Then stay tuned…

I always grab drugstore mascaras in the US, always. They’re comparatively cheap and shrink-wrapped, so you can be sure that no one else opened the tube before you and caused the mascara to dry out prematurely or even *gasp* tested it on their own possibly dirty lashes.

So here we have another promising mascara, Maybelline Volum’ Express The Mega Plush Waterproof…, claiming to deliver lots of volume (come on, “mega plush” screams volume volume volume, no?). And I’m always on the lookout for sh*tloads of volume, at least when it comes to my lashes. The tube itself is pretty much in your face in screaming turquoise and pink. It’s hard to not see the tube.

The brush looks good as well. Big and many hairs arranged in chaos (so practically unarranged). I’ve made the experience that brush hairs, which are neatly arranged in a spiral lead to less volume. So I appreciate the wild chaos. And big brushes. They deliver more color.

But the effect was disappointingly natural. Less clumping than other mascaras, but also less volume and length than my holy grail, The Colossal… Just take a look at what one coat is like:

They basically look like my natural lashes, but with a bit more color. Okay, let’s try another coat:

A tiny bit better. But by now I’ve managed to smear half my upper lid with mascara from the huge brush. Happens if you’re clumsy.

So the Mega Plush is no re-buy for me. I’ll just grab my Maybelline The Colossal again next time, since every other mascara I try pales in comparison. Ok, not Dior or Helena Rubinstein, they just make my wallet run for its life.

Do you have a holy grail mascara?
